hnson Controls International (JCI) is a major Tier 1 automotive supplier, manufacturing a wide variety of interior and exterior assemblies for all the major vehicle manufacturers.

The JCI Speke plant based near Liverpool is a supplier to nearby Jaguar Halewood, and is embarking a major investment programme for the new Land Rover assembly line that is being installed in the nearby plant.

JCI have recently invested in the latest state of the art laser measurement and inspection technology to facilitate the measurement of headliners for the new L359 programme. The company was already using a FaroArm so a non contact scanner was a natural progression due to the nature of the parts.

Quality Manager Chris Cooney comments „in today’s fast moving working environment, it is of the utmost importance for us to be on the cutting edge of measurement and inspection technology”. Chris continued “Being an existing FARO customer, the investment in new equipment was never an issue. We knew the support we would get from the whole of FARO’s UK Team would allow us to get up to speed as quickly and effectively as possible“.

Quality Engineer Nick Bradburn also expressed his delight in the new system „The ‘simple to understand’ graphical reports from the Geomagic software make inspection issues a thing of the past. Full colour map comparison to our original cad data is proving invaluable. Combining both easy to use software and the latest generation of a 7 axis 8ft Platinum Arm & Laser Scanner combo make the inspection process quick and effective, and more importantly easy to understand”.
